Saw this on another forum, and was asked to warn others here.

Twice today, my virus protection informed me that it had detected and deleted a virus called Downloader (formerly known as Downloader - Trojan). I had a few windows open and thus it wasn't apparent the first time what site was possibly responsible for it. The second time, though, the only possible source was the Korea Herald's site. Now, I'm sure that company would never knowingly spread such malware, so my guess is someone's either peeved at them or just being jerkish.
Anyway, is there anything in the news about them being targeted? |

I highly doubt they were targeted. Many, many Korean sites use malware/serious spyware. I went there too, and I don't suggest anyone go there. It automatically comes down in a file without any choice of installation. Deleting the temp files in your browser SHOULD take care of it.
This is what comes down: JS/Psyme:

I can't tell you how many times I've had to clean/fix Windows on my friend's computer because she insists on using sites like Hangame, which is full of crap that comes down with the games. I forbid anyone to play Korean games on my computer for exactly this reason. They are full of malware, spyware, and all sorts of crap that could almost land some company in jail in the West. |

This is true. Many, many Korean sites routinely use vulnerabilities in the IE browser to download and run malware/adware on your computer. Many of the Korean malware/adware protectors actually install their own virii on your system to boot.
Korea in general is a computer security disaster, as far as I can tell. Maybe 100% of people use windows/IE, the vast majority of that is taken off warez and malware sites, so alot of it comes pre-installed with virii. A lot of Korean websites won't even work with firefox. Add to that the fact that many security alerts don't get translated into Korean. |
