I've downloaded a movie (torrent file) that I want to watch with some K-friends. I searched online and found a set of English subtitles, so I downloaded them too. The problem is that the movie and subtitles are out of sequence. Without changing thousands of lines of code, is there a relatively simple procedure for making the two work together?

When you play your movie you will probably see a little green "swish arrow" on the right side of your toolbar. It is directvobsub. Right click and choose "directvobsub" from the list that you see. You will see a "timing" tab in the settings menu. Change to timings forward or back to suit the movie. Good luck.

By the way, some subtitle files will never mesh with some movies because they are recorded at a different framerate. This is indicated if you get the subtitles meshed but they become more and more unsynced as you watch the movie.

Use Gomplayer and there is a subtitle fast-forward function where you can move the timing of the subs back or forward. I have many movies labeled "Blah (+10s.)", meaning the subs must be advanced 10 seconds to be in sync with the movie.

Thanks for the tips Hanguk and Demo. I found the delay setting on VLC, but it turns out they're recorded at different framerates. I'll check out other sets of subtitles in hopes that one of the others will work out. Also, Demo that's great advice for keeping track of offset info!
