I have a question about COM ports and Device Drivers.
I am trying to connect my Samsung Anycall phone to my new PC for downloading pictures. I downloaded the PCLink software and Samsung Device driver from the Samsung internet. I installed the PCLink Software and the Device Driver on my old Laptop and my phone connected fine. So the software and device driver seem to be OK; or at least compatable with my old laptop (which is almost dead).
Now I have a new Desktop PC. I install the PCLink Software and Device driver, but now when I run PCLink, it cannot find the phone. I have the phone connected to my PC with a USB cable (same cable that works fine on my laptop). The phone shows that it is connected to the PC and flashes lights like it is exchanging data. The error message on the PCLink software says Make sure COM1 is configured and you are not running other software on COM1. I go to the Device manager and go to COM1 and it says enabled and working properly. In the device manager I also see the Samsung Modem driver working properly.
My question is: Com1 is enabled and working properly, but how do I see if it is another program using it and not my phone? I have no other devices plugged into my computer, no modems, nothing. I even took out my USB mouse and used an old regular mouse connection mouse. There is nothing in the device manager under COM1 that says Com1 is running the Samsung modem, so how do I make sure that I am not running other software on my COM1? Or how do I check the Samsung Modem driver and make sure that it is running on COM1?
Any help appreciated,
Thanks,
