i think my laptop has died. i tried to start it up and i got 4 different reactions, screen goes from black to gray... slowly. a cursor shows up and blinks, that's it. one screen showed up saying that my system has recovered from a serious error... following start ups yielded only the green LED coming on, nothing on the monitor whatsoever... ho hum

Now my laptop is definitely dead, i took it into the shop... these same guys sold me RAM upgrades and a new battery a couple months ago... they said the main board was toast... the first reason they suggested was a power surge... when i said it was running on batteries (one of which i just bought from them) they quickly changed their tune...
sh*t
is that a probably cause? can a battery surge and fry a PC? what are the chances that one of their (overpriced) components is the culprit...
the laptop's case is metal, is it possible that this could've led to a surge?
i have been told that a bad DIMM could cause a similar problem...
after they started harvesting my HD and RAM for me they offered me the chance to trade it in for another PC... plus another $900... haha... shady
i also seemed to be missing RAM when i got home and checked
damn
