http://www.dynamic-korea.com/consulate_service/visa.php

I was looking up visa stuff and noticed that entertainment workers require an HIV test. Is that because prostitutes are brought in under entertainment visas or do they think there is more HIV in the entertainment industry in general?

Your guess is just as good as mine. Never know what the logic is with Korean immigration. Confused

Apparently, the Korean government condones bringing in prostitutes as long as they are AIDS free. Problem is, AIDS is not a foreign problem only. Korean prostitutes get the HIV virus from other Koreans.

You need an HIV test for your American green card. That's always a little stressful.

While HIV was introduced into Korea by some random foreigner, the spread of HIV from Korean to Korean is caused by the relative lack of condom use and the fact that Koreans automatically presume other Koreans are 'safe' whereas foreigners are a potential source of danger.

I think greater education is needed for ANYONE having sex in Korea.

And lets not mention Koreans going to Thailand and having condomless sex with prostitutes. That's a vector.

Of more concern are the underground homosexual and bisexual communities (nintey percent of the cases here are male and prostitutes have to be tested). Even if you have vaginal sex (no condem) with a HIV positive prostitute the chances that transmission would take place are extremely remote unless you have an STD.

Everybody knows that HIV/AIDS is a GAY / foreigner disease and Koreans are protected from it because they eat Kimchi. Kimchi will prevent and/or cure HIV.
Shocked
Since there are NO GAYS in Korea it must be from those foreign devils coming here. It could NOT have been a Korean that brought it back from abroad.
Shocked
Those are the facts kiddies. Read it and weep. Shocked

Like most born American citizens I have no idea what it's like to deal with emigration. I hear the weirdest stories. I suppose from a foreign view the US probably seems as nutty as Korea. -Jeff

You can be denied entry for having HIV or you can get asylum for having HIV. My country is nutty. -Jeff

It is as nutty as Korea. You can be deported for being HIV positive, will be denied a visa of you have a criminal record (no matter how insignificant), and anyone has the power to conduct a background check on any American citizen online (all you need is a visa card).

I just got a printout from the local police. I had recently paid a fine for not painting my house. It was a citation like a speeding ticket. I was never arrested. The police report just has a line that says "arrest housing". I'm afraid to show it to the Koreans.
