And give details. Very Happy

I'm hotelled here for another layover. I've been through Daegu a few times in the past, always on my way somewhere else, at most spending the night and gone by early light.

But is there a reason to spend tomorrow in Daegu itself?

I'll be starting the day tomorrow near the Seobu terminal. So directions from there would be nice.

Parks? sights? shopping? meeting a poster for lunch? whatever.

I'll check back at dawn and if anything grabs me I'll check it out (if you give some directions!). The only thing I recall hearing is about some park through the city to walk (I like walking) but dunno how to get to it from where I am. Point me in a direction perhaps.

If nothing grabs me, I'll move on with my journey to Andong (was gonna arrive there saturday or sunday, so a day in Daegu is totally optional).

Apsan Park and SuSeong Lake are the two hot tourist spots. Just grab a taxi. But if you're alone, I'd head for Andong. Daegu isn't bad, I lived there for two years.

Hey Van Islander,

Daegu is like a large Regina, but with mountains.

My suggestion would be a visit to Haeinsa temple, which is about an hour and a half away by bus leaving from the Seobu terminal. The buses leave every 15 minutes or so and cost about 7000 won. The temple is one of the most renowned in Korea, and is a Unesco World Heritage site (or some such designation.) There are also some nice hiking trails up Gaya mountain leaving from close to the temple main gate.

About a 15 minute walk from Seobu terminal is Duryu park, not a bad place for a stroll. Adjacent to that is Woobang Towerland, and ersatz amusement park. You'll see the big tower from Seobu terminal...just walk toward it. Duryu park also has the Daegu tourism information center, which can give you other information about things going on in town.

As mentioned, Apsan Park isn't bad either. It's close to Seobu as well. Probably a 2,500 won cab ride. There's a cable car to the top and a lot of hiking trails around.

Seobu bus teminal is right at Seongdangmot subway station, so if you want to see Daegu's unimpressive downtown, a 15 minute ride will get you to Jungangno Station, surrounded by shopping streets, etc.

Daegu: slightly more interesting than Regina, but not as pleasant as Saskatoon.

Cheers.

*yawn* 7:10 a.m.

I'm gonna blow this popsicle stand.

Thanks for the suggestions. Maybe next time. The reasons for spending a day in Daegu just aren't strong enough this time around. I'm sure I'll see more than the routes into and out of the city, some day, or not.
