If you want to teach in the States, you gotta have one.
You also have to undergo a background check.
Why not teachers in Korea? |

Public school teachers should. I don't think hagwons are necessary. |

I definetly believe teachers should be given background checks. This is a peadophiles dream. Close, often unsupervised, contact with young children. Scary, scary, scary. |

You don't think that the miniscule amount of weed smoking that goes on in Korea is a danger to the children, you just think that drug testing would cause problems for some of those guys you've been feuding with. Your bare motivations are hanging out for all to see.
Background checks, sure. That's not a bad idea at all. |

I'm sorry, man.
I'm anti-drug to the core.
I don't think potheads should be around children.
And if teachers are smoking and purchasing drugs in Asia knowing they face prison and deportation...
Well, to my mind, that shows at the very minimum a complete lack of judgment. |

When compared, pot is less harmful and less likely to cause trouble than drinking. Pot is not going to be a problem for teachers. In my opinion ofcourse
Background checks are much more necessary and will tell if there have been any drug related arrests (or worse!). |

There are worse things than taking drugs. In Korea it could be a problem if you do it because it puts you in contact with some scummy people. But if you smoked it a little bit in university you can still be alright. Background checks--go for it. |

Never bring your children to New Zealand then - I'd hazard a guess that teachers here smoke up at higher than the national average. Anyway, regardless of whether or not pot smokers are dangerous around children, so few teachers in Korea even have access to drugs that drug testing would be a horrendously wasteful enterprise of little benefit.
Rather than worrying about pot, if I were really concerned about the quality of teachers in Korea I'd want to allocate more resources for screening out habitual alcohol abusers. |

Alcohol isn't against the law. You can't screen out people for doing something legal--for the most part. |

There are worse things than random drugs testing. But being required to piss in a cup in front of a uniformed stranger (and they'd better witness the sampling, or potheads will smuggle in drug-free wee-wee) sounds degrading. I would prefer polygraphs, and expand the investigation beyond simply drugs. I mean which is worse, a teacher whose smoked dope or one that believes Dokdo isn't rightfully Korea's? |

If I were to test you for drugs, I expect the result would be:

True, but alcoholism is socially pathological behaviour. I'm not sure if I'd be happy about having an alcoholic teach my children. Of course, in Korea the definition of alcoholic is pretty high up the scale, so most high functionals wouldn't have much to worry about. |

So you don't drink either I assume?
Sounds like somebody needs to take a puff on some weeeeed before they pass judgement on "pot-heads"
I don't think people who are close-minded should be around children.
Look around and see the fighting after people drink some soju. If they smoked weed, I can all but promise that it would be different.
Open your mind buddy. Weed has no place in the workplace, but neither does alcohol. What people do on their own time is their own business as long as it doesnt affect their job or other people around them. |
