Let's say you're playing Go-Stop with 3 players, you have 5 points, and three are in pi. You have called go twice. One of the other players steals a pi from you on your turn. You get only ONE pi on your next turn, in effect "replacing" the one you lost.
Can you still say go? Or do you have to get at least two pi before you can say stop, giving you six total points? |

It's been a while since I played Go-stop, but if I remember correctly, I think you need to gain a net-positive in order to say "Go." It's not enough to replace points that were stolen from you.
Hopefully, someone else can give you a better answer.

I think you can only say go after your second shot of soju. |

Brian, you're correct.
If you had 5 points and lost 1 point (i.e., you had to give someone one of your 'pi'), then you picked up 1 point on you're next turn, you'd still be at 5 points. That's the same as if you hadn't lost any points, and hadn't picked up any points on your turn. You need to get to 6 points or higher to say "go", or to even win in this situation. If the game finished like that, it would be, if I remember correctly, "". (i.e., no one wins).
Good luck!

Let's see... got my ojinga, marunanju, one Korean girlfriend here setting up to play Go-stop and cooking budaejigae with two other Korean ladies arriving shortly with several bottles of soju in hand and I have my hwa-tu cards ready.
It doesn't get any better than this! (Then what the heck am I doin play'n around with this forum?! I gotta GOOOOOooooo!)
BTW, you can't drink soju with an online friend! You must have friends around to hit or money to pay in case they(or you!) lose. Soju and hwa-tu are like cookies and milk, they just go together. I'd say this is one grand and REAL Korean experience. |
