The death toll of Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan has now reached 40, making this the most costly operation since the Korean war. Interestingly, most of these deaths have happened since the Harper Conservatives took power. I'm not opposed to an international presence there, but let's face it, this operation is being run completely by the Yanks. Everything they touch in the ME turns to shit, and Afghanistan is no exception. There are so many more worthwhile, non-US operations that our troops could be involved in. I just can't believe that the Canadian public is still putting up with this. If Canadians only knew the real truth about all that happened in Somolia there would be no chance Canadian and US troops being involved in a joint operation ever again.
I guess that if there's anything good about this it's that it makes the possibility of Harper sending Canadian troops to Iraq all the more impossible. There are times when I wish so much that Canada could save itself from the US and other times when I just feel like saying *beep* them both. |
