The Last Waltz (Mido's Theme) from the Oldboy score.
To paraphrase Yann Martel, that piece of music will make you believe in god.

Good thread idea. It is very difficult, however. What are the various criteria for choosing?
The most perfect song ever......?

There's no criteria. What do you think is the most perfect song? It's a purely subjective question. |

Just off the top:
Grade: A year in the past, forever in the future.
Van Morrison: Moodance
Townes Van Zandt: Dead Roses
Face to Face: Disconnected
Pink Floyd: Comfortably Numb...
I picked these just cuz they all have some great moment/memory attached to them in my life. Usually on a porch or backyard with friends at school.

Great choices Bulsajo.....But..If I was to pick an Eric Clapton tune it would be Bell Bottom Blues.
Tears Of a Clown is one of the perfect songs. |

I agree with all the songs in the thread so far, I think (except for the Jeff Buckly. I've seen you post about him a few times, but I need to get a hold of some of his stuff as I've never heard it before). As far as I'm concerned there is so much music out there that is 'perfect'. Given this, it really boggles the mind that anyone would waste time intentionally listening to crap music more than once (ex- Bryan Adams Summer of '69), life's too short to waste on crap.
So with that I'd add a more contemporary song,
Elliott Smith's "Sweet Adeline" |

The best ever:
Rollin' and Tumblin' (pt. 10) - Muddy Waters
What'd I Say - Ray Charles (I once argued that this should be the national anthem of the US.)
Here's a bunch of songs that are perfect in more limited ways - perfect at some narrow genre or perfect a particular moment:
The Rent - John Wesley Harding - perfect wistful end of the relationship song
H.A.T.R.E.D - Tonio K. - perfect not-so-wistful end of the relationship song
Metal Firecracker - Lucinda Williams - another perfect sad end of relationship song ("All I ask - don't tell anybody the secrets I told you.")
Is there a theme developing here?
Gde-to Letom - Zhanna Friske - perfect summer single, even if you don't understand it.
Souvenirs - John Prine & Steve Goodman - perfect duet
Istanbul - Pamela - perfect song about a city, the city!
Yardim Et - Mor ve Otesi - perfect song against the war
The Thrill is Gone - BB King - perfect BB King
I could go on and on with little gems; I'll close with the truest song title ever written and perfect zydeco:
Man Smart, Woman Smarter - C. J. Chenier and The Red Hot Lousiana Band |

Maybe Malpractice by Faith No More, or Wicked World by Black Sabbath. Actually I like the 14 minute song at the end better but Wicked World has pretty much everything you need in a song. |

That's a tough one. If I had to pick on, it would be American Pie by Don McLean. |
