So I'm currently contemplating changing schools and I have found a new job. The other school ( public) is convinced that I don't have to get a letter of release or a new visa. I know this is not the case. What happens if I do go and work at this school with my current visa? If for some reasons something happened and I got caught would it be my fault? I'm not too sure what I have to do next..... |

If your current school is refusing a letter of release, I have heard, that it is possible to go to immigration and tell them your school refused to sign it and immigration would cancel your visa.
I doubt this is true.
In both occasion where I have changed schools I have needed a letter of release. Is your current position proving difficult to get released from? How long have you worked there?
No matter what the simple solution is to have your prospective school call immigration. Don't rely on heresy. |

Yes. You must notify immigration in person of your change (quitting at your old job). They will cancel your current visa and give you an exit order.
You have until then to get your paperwork in order and you can make your visa run.
If you quit working for your current employer you have 10 days from the last date of employment to leave the country.
If they (your old bosses) notify immigration that you are not there anymore (so they can get a replacement) and immi notes that you have NOT cleared out through passport control you will be in an illegal overstay situation and may be subject to fines, detention and deportation. |

Sit your new prospective boss down and calmly, politely but firmly say that you will under no circumstances begin work until he has a signed, stamped letter from Immi saying that you do not need a new visa. Tell him/her you will wait quietly right there while he makes the call to Immi.
Then watch him turn purple when he finds out that he has no idea what he's been telling you. Or else he was lieing to you. |
