well presumably she'll be an unusual version of a teenage pregnancy and not be knocking on the government door for a handout.

I liked this one.

Well, it's certainly not what you'd expect from a young actress whose career is taking off.

" She finished filming the role of the Virgin Mary in a hot new Hollywood movie only weeks ago, and now 16-year-old Oscar-nominated Kiwi actress Keisha Castle-Hughes has announced she is pregnant."
Catholic, perhaps? She could be the first pregnant 16 year old to win an oscar. That would be an interesting acheivement.

Give it time. What will she have to rely on once the New Idea and Womens Weekly tire of featuring her with her baby's exclusive!! first steps, and wow!! first birthday etc ad nauseum.

The Woman's Weekly gives both women and weeks a bad name IMO.

A lot of people seem to be looking down their noses at her for being pregnant. I'm having a hard time guessing what her most heinous crime is:

-Having sex at 16? This is older than the average age in many countries.

-Getting pregnant--could be the result of careless birth control practise (this is far far more common than we'd like to admit) or a failure on the part of a condom/pill?

-Not having an abortion? Being a teenage mother is a daunting prospect, and being in the spotlight, judged and sneered at, is more difficult still. She may not intend to keep the child, but in any case, I have to give her credit for making a very hard decision.

Anyway, I feel for the kid. We've all done stupid things, gotten carried away, and she's got enough trouble without others tut-tutting over her.

I don't think this 'tut-tutting' you're hearing is that serious - and even you agree that being pregnant at her age is not the best position to be in. Were you expecting everyone to post in this thread wishing her congratulations?

It's nice to know white trashness in not confined by racial, national, or ethnic boundries.

Well, it's been rumored that some young actresses and pop singers in Korea have had abortions, and their careers are probably not as promissing as hers. I'm saying that having a kid right now may not be the wisest choice because she's got this amazing career lined up for her. She's got a long life ahead of her. Plenty of time to have kids.

Besides, some would do anything to get the opportunity. Some have been known to have made a couple of porn movies with their ex-boyfriend--and claim its release was unauthorized, despite the fact that it was certified as following Section 2257 of the US code, which requires full consent of the performers--in order to have a simpler life.

Sadly, you do have a point. But don't forget that Anna Paquin has a connections to Canada (she was born there and her dad is a French Canadian) and to the US (through some of her relatives), also make her a more marketable actress.

PS. Speaking of which...Quick list of stars who have a French Canadian parent: Anna Paquin (well, her name gives it out), Neve Campbell (mom, can speak French very well), Madonna (yup, her mom. Don't know if she speaks French, but she's got a weird accent when she speaks in English), Paula Adbul (her mom), Dan Ackroyd (mom again, can speak French well enough).
