If North Korea does try to test a nuke, what do you think will happen? I can see a number of possibilities:

1. NK attempts a belowground test, but something goes wrong and NK ends up with a major environmental disaster.

2. NK attempts a test, is successful, but the UN imposes further sanctions. Putting them right back where they started.

3. NK attempts a test, provoking a military response by the US or Japan, and Pyongyang responds with a limited artillery strike on Seoul.

Man...I really don't like the looks of this. I think KJI is a genius at strategy - he's had his whole life to work on it - but the missile test shows that he's capable of making mistakes. BIG mistakes. The US and Japan obviously didn't respond the way NK expected, and they've placed themselves in a worse situation, strategically speaking, then they were before the missile test. A nuke test would just be another blackmail attempt. And what if AGAIN, the US and Japan just (militarily) shrug it off?

They must be awfully desperate up there. Shocked

Japan has a limited capability.

Time they dropped their pacifist ideology in a hurry.

That might be the best way to handle it.

Too much on Americas plate right now to bother with giving them extra attention. If they want to cr*p in their own yard, let them. So long as they're not harming anyone else.

My prediction: If there is a nuke test then Bush will issue the Bush Doctrine saying something like: If a nuke goes off anywhere in the world at any time, Pyongyang will be a glass-coated hole in the ground within 20 minutes.

Returning nuclear with nuclear= bad idea. It'll just be more of the same crap from the rest of the world. Only difference will be that EVERYONE stays away from North K and they simply die a slow painful death from complete and utter isolation.

N.Korean Nuke Threat Looms Over S.Korean Economy

Seoul shares plummeted after North Korea on Tuesday announced it plans to conduct a nuclear test. There are growing concerns that if it carries out the threat, it would shake the South Korean economy to its very foundation.
◆ Stock Market -- Seoul shares plunged 22.22 points or 1.62 percent to close at 1,352 points on Wednesday

Well, with a US carrier group headed to the Gulf (amazingly, I found predictions of this as a new 9/11 from months ago...), a nuke test from NK looming, Afghanistan a mess, Iraq a mess and new massive encroachments on the Constitution... one's mind turns to the silliness of Hal Lindsey...

Sheesh...

i might consider moving. New Zealand is pretty far away from everything, right? and it's not like the Kiwis could do anything to piss the rest of the world off.

Maybe exchanging all my Korean Won to U.S. Dollar as soon as possible and get ready to evacuate might be good idea.

I would only if the U.S. start moving their big ships this way and Korean economy and their Won rate start nose diving, it's sure sign that it's not worth it to stay in Korea.

I dunno about that. The French deliberately sank a ship in their harbor not all that long ago. I know it was Amnesty International's ship (I think) but still...
