Hi all,

I'm thinking about quitting my contract and wondering how long I will have until I need to leave the country. I heard that British have 3 month tourist visas, but would this length of time differ since I'm leaving a job (rather than entering the country) ?

If it is shorter than 3 months, what do I need to do in order to get the 3 month visa? Can I just take a trip to immigration to get an extension?

Thanks for the help, have a good weekend!

Give your school 1 month notice. Once done, they will go to immigration with you to release you of your E2 visa. At that point you will have 2 weeks to leave the country. You will not automatically get a travelling visa issued. You would need to leave the country and come back to get a travelling visa.

Don't pull a runner, as your school could get angry and make it difficult to get a new visa.

Thanks for the info.

I have no intention on pulling a runner, just wanted to know how long I get...

So leaving and re-entering is the only way to extend my stay after my visa is cancelled? Seems pointless going through that without the purpose of getting a new work visa :/

Search for a job while you are in your last month. Then, once you have secured a job, you will need to get a new E2. Your new employer will send you to Japan. They will pay for this trip. Try to coordinate it so that it works out to fit your timing.

Good luck.

EPIK has a way of getting around the visa run. I'm not sure how but the other teacher I was with was able to do it when we were taken to get our ARC's. -Jeff
