|
|
I'm about to go home back to Canada, and my brother who is into 3d animation wanted me to look into video card prices for him. Specifically for a Radeon X1900 or X1950. From the websites I looked at so far, they seem to be priced better back home. Would this make sense? I was under the impression video cards are very cheap here. My Geforce 6600 was very well priced.
Can someone clear up where I can expect to pay the least for a decent video card? North America or Korea? |

Hi there,
The video cards in Korea are cheap as long as they are not mid to high end. For example, try finding a geforce 7900 GTX in Korea for under $350USD. It won't happen. Additionally, finding high-end cards in Korea is rare. You can't just walk into any old PC shop and get one. They'll most likely tell you, "up-so-yo" or that they can't get it-LIARS. They can, it's just too costly for them to get it for you. You'll have to go to Yongsan or order from Yongsan (for the high-end cards). The cheapo's are everywhere, are abundant in quantity, and are...well...cheap.
If you get a chance, take a look at the links in the (excellent computer websites). You'll be able to compare prices.
My opinion, buy a video card in the states. You'll have more variety, a cheaper cost, and access to tech. support and warranty (if the need arises). |

Thanks guys. It seemed like this was the case but I wanted to make sure.
What about decent CPUs and M/Bs? What would the price difference be like? |

What are you looking for? High-end? Mid-range? Low-end? What do you plan on doing with the computer? What is your price range? |

Something good for using 3D studio. I was thinking perhaps an AMD 4800.
Would you have better suggestions for an affordable/decent cpu? |

i bought one for 990,000 won here last winter. it was originally 900,000 won, but they jacked up the price 10% because i paid with a visa. at that time it was around $787 in the usa.
basically everything will be cheaper in the usa/canada. |

Do you HAVE to have an AMD? May I recommend and Intel? Demophobe et. al. will be able to help you with AMD's. I usually keep up with the Intels.
Take a minute and peruse the sticky up on the top of the tech. forum. Many of us have contributed some nice links. I know that tiger direct is having monster deals right now.
Let me know about what price range you are looking in. Also, do you need anything else besides the CPU and board? |

I have been looking through those links, and it does seem to me that buying high end in Korea is pointless.
It does not have to be AMD, I also just figured it was a safe bet when it came to bang for one's buck.
I'm more concerned about where the best deal is for higher end than I am about price. I have already built a couple computers here that are mid range for good prices. AMD 3700, GF6600 and so on.
My brother is planning on getting a new 3D animation rig, so I told him I would look into getting him some parts in Korea for it. |
