Okay I FINALLY got my PC shipped in from the USA. I buy little plug adaptors and switch the voltage on the back to 240 or whatever but right when I turn it on it says "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER!"
It came with a Windows disk and I tried that which failed to work, and then I tried a bunch of random disks that came with it just to leave no stone unturned. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Do I need some random disk or is it easily available or is my PC just screwed?
Edit: If I try and run WIndows it says....
"Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed on this computer
Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on (how the hell you do that?) and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer supplied diagnostic or setup program. |

I experienced silimar things when I brought my notebook over. There are serveral reasons that could explain your problems.
It is possible that the hard drive came unplugged during the shipping. You can open the keyboard and check this yourself. If you are not comfortable during this there are a number of computer shops around that would help you.
Another possibility is that the power supply is not generating enough power to operate the hard drive as the case with mine. I bought a a new power supply here and problem solved.
It could also be your hard is no longer working. You may need to replace the hard drive.

Sounds like the mainboard has some things that have come loose so it quits before the POST (power on self test).
It could be a dead mainboard, dead CPU, bad or loose RAM, bad power supply, bad or loose video card.
Either or all of these will usually cause an automatic shutdown to protect the computer from further damage. |

When they scanned the box, if your PC wasn't packed properly, it could have messed up the harddrive. No big deal. Disk boot failure means you need to reinstall the OS. We'll do that. But first.....let's clean sweep that PC to make sure everything is gone. If you agree, then we can go from there. |

Well it was a brand new PC, custom built so doesn't really matter what's on there. I don't know if I'm really comfy opening her up because just plugging everything in the right place seemed odd.
Anyway I did get a weird spark when I tried to turn it on the second time, even though I have Korean adaptors plugged into a power strip. I did remember to flip the switch on the back to the higher voltage.
Here are my specs if that helps:

Well I tried using my Windows CD to repair or just reinstall and it wouldnt work because of the hard drive thing... But anyway I'm more scared of that big spark because I hope only a power supply got fried and nobody else... There wasnt any smoke though so thats hopeful |

Stick your nose to the back fan on the case. Does it smell like burnt wiring?
If yes (strong smell), then I suspect that your power supply shorted out and/or died.
If it is a weak smell then something else shorted out.
Either way, you have to open the case and have a look or get someone to do it for you (friend or computer shop).
First thing is to get the computer hardware running again.
Since in your earlier post you said that you got the error message "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed on this computer " it shows that you have a hardware failure and the bios did NOT see the HDD.
The only way to check is to open the case and HAVE A LOOK.
You are looking for burnt wires, scorch marks on the circuit boards and/or chips with a burnt smell.

| oh snap! I didn't read the "spark" thing. Do what TTpat said. If it isn't even turning on now, I'd say get a new PSU for cheap here in Korea and test it out on your rig (FYI - don't get less than 500Watts for your machine or your computer won't work when under load). |

| Thanks for the ideas but I'm such a Korea-noob that I havent even bought a screwdriver yet to be able to open it up. I'll try and give it a look after work tomorrow - the member johndoe also contacted me and offered to come by and help me out which I'll probably do. After what happened today I'm kind of scared to even touch stuff in there lest it gets more screwed up. |

What is good is that my case is transparent and nothing looks obviously screwed up in there but I guess thats my hopeful optimism talking. |
