I am supposed to be flying into Seoul on the 18th. I have a 700 USD non-refundable ticket, with a return portion on November 15th. I am tring to sift through information and make decisions in the wake of the reported test on the 8/9th. So here is a poll to get some info from Dave's.
Thanks for those who respond. |

alright dude.
not posted on the poll coz none of them fit me.
however, there is only one person that can answer whether it is right for you to come here and that is you.
when you live in south korea, seoul, for a long time you get used to the fact that fifty miles north are one million troops itching for some action. but, if you think you are going to come over here and be continually looking north and listening out for an advancing million troops then you are going to drive yourself nuts with worry and paranoia.
i don't think this test should put you off coming here. it is a wonderful experience spending some time in south korea. the technology, the social and cultural differences. being called a terrorist on the subway just coz you are a westerner by a very drunk ajoshi! being stared at and discriminated against and having crazy conversations with socially inept waegooks! but then you've got the food, oh the food the food! and the technology! and the food! and cheap transport and the food and the food!
the north koreans are always doing crazy sh*t man, but if you are not going to enjoy your stay through worry then don't come. but if you can cope with it then do come, it will be well worth it! |

This is probably the wrong place to post this poll - if you want many responses that is. I suspect that not too many frequenters of Dave bother to look in this forum. I'd try the general forum.
My opinion: I probably wouldn't let it put you off. If I was in your position I wouldn't change my plans. I think this development affects the world in a very negative way, but I doubt it will have much impact on your safety in South Korea at this time. However, it's up to you to weigh up the risks and assess how great they are. |
