Okay I FINALLY got my PC shipped in from the USA. I buy little plug adaptors and switch the voltage on the back to 240 or whatever but right when I turn it on it says "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER!"

It came with a Windows disk and I tried that which failed to work, and then I tried a bunch of random disks that came with it just to leave no stone unturned. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Do I need some random disk or is it easily available or is my PC just screwed?

Edit: If I try and run WIndows it says....

"Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed on this computer

Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on (how the hell you do that?) and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer supplied diagnostic or setup program.

I experienced silimar things when I brought my notebook over. There are serveral reasons that could explain your problems.

It is possible that the hard drive came unplugged during the shipping. You can open the keyboard and check this yourself. If you are not comfortable during this there are a number of computer shops around that would help you.

Another possibility is that the power supply is not generating enough power to operate the hard drive as the case with mine. I bought a a new power supply here and problem solved.

It could also be your hard is no longer working. You may need to replace the hard drive.

All the best,

NK

Sounds like the mainboard has some things that have come loose so it quits before the POST (power on self test).

It could be a dead mainboard, dead CPU, bad or loose RAM, bad power supply, bad or loose video card.

Either or all of these will usually cause an automatic shutdown to protect the computer from further damage.

Relax my friend. This is why you came on here: for help right?

Is it a custom built PC? If so, please tell me what motherboard you have in it. I'll help you.

When they scanned the box, if your PC wasn't packed properly, it could have messed up the harddrive. No big deal. Disk boot failure means you need to reinstall the OS. We'll do that. But first.....let's clean sweep that PC to make sure everything is gone. If you agree, then we can go from there.

Well it was a brand new PC, custom built so doesn't really matter what's on there. I don't know if I'm really comfy opening her up because just plugging everything in the right place seemed odd.

Anyway I did get a weird spark when I tried to turn it on the second time, even though I have Korean adaptors plugged into a power strip. I did remember to flip the switch on the back to the higher voltage.

Here are my specs if that helps:

Power Supply ( Standard Case Power Supply )
Processor ( Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6400 (2x 2.13GHz/2MB L2 Cache/1066FSB) )

Motherboard ( Asus P5N-SLI w/7.1 Sound, Gb LAN, S-ATA Raid, USB 2.0 Dual PCI-E MB )
Memory ( 2048MB [1024MB X2] DDR2-800 PC6400 Memory Module Corsair-Value or Major Brand )
Video Card ( 2x Nvidia Geforce 7900GT 512MB w/DVI + TV Out Video )
Hard Drive ( 160 GB HARD DRIVE [Serial-ATA-II, 3Gb, 7200 RPM, 8M Cache] )
2nd Hard Drive ( None )
Raid Controller ( None )
Raid Configuration ( None )
CD/DVD Drive ( 16x DVD-ROM Drive Black )
CD-RW/DVD-RW Drive ( [** Special !!! ***] 16X Dual Format/Double Layer DVDR/RW + CD-R/RW Drive Black )
Sound Card ( 3D Premium Surround Sound Onboard )
Speaker System ( 600W PMPO 3 PCS Super Bass Subwoofer Speaker System )

Network Card ( Onboard LAN Network (Gb or 10/100) )

Monitor ( LCD Monitor Viewsonic 20.1" Wide VX2025wm TFT LCD Monitor 1680x1050 [Silver/Black 2-Tone] )

Keyboard ( Logitech Deluxe Keyboard Black )
Mouse ( Logitech Optical Internet Mouse Black )
Mne Media Reader/Writer ( None )
Operation System ( MS Windows XP Home Edition w/Service Pack-2 )

I'd pretty much cry if my CPU or Graphics cards are fucked because they're ridiculously powerful and expensive... God I've been waiting for this for months and it was like Christmas was cancelled. I'm cool with replacing a stupid hard drive and power supply but I'm praying for my processors and graphics cards...

Well I tried using my Windows CD to repair or just reinstall and it wouldnt work because of the hard drive thing... But anyway I'm more scared of that big spark because I hope only a power supply got fried and nobody else... There wasnt any smoke though so thats hopeful

Nice PC (not as nice as mine hahahahha....j/k).

Is this your motherboard?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowImage.asp?Image=13%2D131%2D032%2D02%2Ejpg%2C13%2D131%2D032%2D03%2Ejpg%2C13%2D131%2D032%2D04%2Ejpg%2C13%2D131%2D032%2D05%2Ejpg%2C13%2D131%2D032%2D06%2Ejpg&CurImage=13%2D131%2D032%2D04%2Ejpg&Description=ASUS+P5NSLI+Socket+T+%28LGA+775%29+NVIDIA+nForce+570+SLI+Intel+Edition+ATX+Intel+Motherboard+%2D+Retail

if so, do the following:

-Open your computer up (make sure some part of your body is ALWAYS touching the metal case.

-then follow the steps in this diagram I made you:

Let me know.

Stick your nose to the back fan on the case. Does it smell like burnt wiring?

If yes (strong smell), then I suspect that your power supply shorted out and/or died.

If it is a weak smell then something else shorted out.

Either way, you have to open the case and have a look or get someone to do it for you (friend or computer shop).

First thing is to get the computer hardware running again.

Since in your earlier post you said that you got the error message "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed on this computer " it shows that you have a hardware failure and the bios did NOT see the HDD.

The only way to check is to open the case and HAVE A LOOK.

You are looking for burnt wires, scorch marks on the circuit boards and/or chips with a burnt smell.

let us know.

oh snap! I didn't read the "spark" thing. Do what TTpat said. If it isn't even turning on now, I'd say get a new PSU for cheap here in Korea and test it out on your rig (FYI - don't get less than 500Watts for your machine or your computer won't work when under load).

Thanks for the ideas but I'm such a Korea-noob that I havent even bought a screwdriver yet to be able to open it up. I'll try and give it a look after work tomorrow - the member johndoe also contacted me and offered to come by and help me out which I'll probably do. After what happened today I'm kind of scared to even touch stuff in there lest it gets more screwed up.

What is good is that my case is transparent and nothing looks obviously screwed up in there but I guess thats my hopeful optimism talking.
