This coming Jan. will be my first time doing a whirlwing trip (several countries in one month). My questions is how do I plan it all? I know I can book a flight out of Korea to another nation, but how do I get to other nations from that nation? Do I find a travel agent in that other country? Can I just drop by the airport and see if there are any tickets left? Is it possible to book rooms/flights 4-5 months in advance?
These questions may sound dumb to some of you, but it's information I need. If you have any experience doing a trip like this, kindly let me know. PM me if you feel shy about replying to this message.
I look forward to your replies.
Cheers,

Two possibilities:
1) Korea-->Singapore-->Malaysia-->Thailand --> Myanmar --> India
-->Myanmar -->Thailand-->Malaysia-->Singapore--Korea
2) Korea-->Australia-->Kiwi land-->Fiji-->Australia-->Korea.
I have 5 weeks of vacation time. I think that ought to be enough time to spend a few days in each country. If any of you have ever done this, I'd love to hear about your experiences.
I realize that's a lot of countries in such a short period of time, so I may decide in the end to only visit a couple, to savour and appreciate what other nations have to offer.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers,

Definitely cut down. That would be my advice. 5 weeks is enough time to see one or two countries well. I realize as a new traveller, you want to see as much as possible. But as someone who has done some travelling (25 or so countries), take it slow and easy. Enjoy your time there and get to learn at least a little about the country and culture. Dashing in and out of major cities is not the way to do that.
The only country on your lists that I've been to is Thailand. I believe January is a good time to visit SE Asia. You could easily fill up 5 weeks in the area. I did two months in SE Asia and only saw about half of what I wanted to see.
Maybe people can give you some suggestions if they know what your interests are. Shopping? Historic sights? Temples? Beaches? Partying? Fresh Air? Big Cities? Touristy areas? Untouristed areas? |

The cheapest way would probably be to buy a return ticket on Thai Airways for Seoul to India (via Bangkok in both directions).
That way you could spend 3 weeks in South East Asia (doing Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore by land) and still have 2 weeks for a short trip to India.
I guess about 850,000 to 1 million would be the approximate price range for something like that in terms of flights.
Most airlines also have "Circle Pacific" airfares where you can travel to 5 or 6 countries in Asia on the one ticket. |

"Circle Pacific" airfares...
Where did you find out about this? I can't seem to find any information about it on the net. I'd love to know more about this ticket.
Thanks for the advice so far. It's very useful.

Go to www.staralliance.com
Click on "Airpasses"
Click on "Star Alliance Circle Asia Fare"
You buy one ticket and can travel up to 18,000 miles with a maxiumum of 18 stops in Asia.
Any travel agent can sell you one. |

Hi, IMHP, you are not travelling but touring, a subtle but important difference. Anyway, in some countries you may not be allowed to disembark if you do not have an onward ticket (in the good old days, I had a Miscellaneous Order from Qantas, good enough to pay for a ticket to most places in the world; never used it, got it refunded when I was done travelling for a while).
Again in days gone by, good info was to be had to hang around with backpacker where they hung about, amongst others where to buy the best (cheapest?) ticket to some (at least for them) interesting place. I guess it is mostly done now via the web.
Make sure you take lots of photos, so you will remember where you have been on your whirl-wind trip. ;)
I think it is possible to book flight several month in advance, maybe you are trying to avoid fare increases. But it always ought to be possible to get a ticket for some airlines. I never booked a hotel in advance; usually I found some place to crash for the first night, and if I didn't like it, found a better one the next day. But if you are in a hurry... |
