Uphold Korean language
It is with a heavy heart that one commemorates Hangul Day today. Five hundred and sixty years ago, King Sejong the Great created hangul, one of the world's most scientific and aesthetic alphabets, but we are not living up to his legacy today. The superior quality of hangul as an alphabet is widely acknowledged. Many linguists around the world evaluate hangul as the most outstanding alphabet in the world. A clear proof of hangul's scientific superiority and efficiency is the easy way one can enter text messages in Korean on one's mobile phone. It was because of the superior traits of our language and writing that our culture was able to flourish without being taken over by the Chinese.... Hangul is the upholder and guardian of our country and our culture.

It is a pretty good alphabet.
And I much prefer texting in Korean over English. |

The writer of that editorial is an ill-informed curmudgeonly jingoist , but hangul is pretty cool, and Korea's lucky to have it.

Hangul is the upholder and guardian of our country and our culture.
Too often, we have looked down on hangul as being inferior to Chinese characters or other foreign languages.... Starting today, we should try to speak our beautiful language in the correct way it was meant to be, in our homes, our schools and our workplaces.

So you're trying to present this shoddy op-ed piece as evidence that Korea is preparing to expel foreign languages? I don't want to use the 'T-word' here, but come on, RR. The guy's complaining about slang. What's so unusual about that? |

Second.
Other than pointing out that the writers/speakers are flawed by parochialism--an old tune indeed--this post don't do much.
Diagnosis:
RR has gone round the bend. Outlived his usefulness.
Recommended Action:
Time to put him out to pasture. Or put him out of our, er, his, misery and send him to the Happy Posting Grounds...Or just post his name in a certain thread in the Off-Topic Forum. |

Did Kim Il Sung know this? Does Kim Jung Il know this? |

Are you intentionally being obtuse, or do you actually think this is a valid argument?

Ooooooh, a rare direct question from RR.
Answer: Well, I imagine they at least support it as part of the stabilizing mythology, even if they did not come up with the concept themselves. They certainly attempt to maintain a linguistic purity only slightly less paranoid than that of the French.
What's your point? Are you suggesting that because they do, the average Korean is as rabid as they? Or are you saying the average Korean is as savvy in exploting jingoism in order to maintain control over a population that would otherwise chuck them into the Sea of Japan?
That would be awesome: 70 million Machiavellian monsters waiting to set themselves on the world. Just biding their time until they get control of some sort of international body, like the...U.N.!!!!!!!!!!!!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everybody run for your lives! They've got us by the vitals now! Ban-gi-ya, chaebal, hajima!!

| RR must be disappointed that nobody has stepped up to call Koreans nazis with a language that sounds like the barking of dogs yet. Still, we're only on the first page. |

| There is little doubt about it; hangul is a great alphabet. It is much easier pick up than its Asian counterparts. |

Christ, man, why don't you SAY something instead of bolding the words of an article. Idiot. What is your point? For somebody who spends so much effort trying to shape other people's opinions, you're really poor at expressing yourself. |
