I just found out that apparently I have to organize a speaking test for middle school students. Last year they were given a picture and were asked questions like what does she look like, what is she wearing, what do you see... etc etc.... I apparently have to change the format and my co teacher doesn't know what to do and so of course i must plan it....
Any ideas?? |

This isn't the best way to do this, but it may be what you have to do in your situation:
Take a look at the teaching of speaking to the children in your school and try to generate a list of expected learning outcomes (e.g., children will be able to answer simple direct questions about themselves and their family; children will be able to give a brief narration of their day...)
Once you have these, try to build a test that will get students to perform the objectives. Build a simple rating scale for judging performances against the learning criteria and go for it.
My bet is that all they really want you to check is the grammar. |

You should find out what your school expects from the speaking test. Will it be used to place students? Just another test that the kids have to take? Do they have any "target language" that they want you to focus on?
If you can't get answers to these questions, find out what units they've recently covered and use those units as a basis for your questions. |
