| Hitler, of course, had Chaplin's The Great Dictator banned but legend has it Hitler personally viewed a copy. Now what if Kim You Be Illin' Jong wanted to see Team America? Clearly he'd have to have it translated into Korean. The question is, would you want the job translating it? Would that be the best career move? |

Not the perky family we've been led to disbelieve them to be then? I laughed out loud at Team Police.

I'd bet my left hairy boy that he doesn't speak English!
Anyway, we well know that Kim Jong Mr. Ill is a huge movie buff.
His favorite is reported to be "Friday 13th" for chrissakes!
I've always wondered what it would be like to be a fly on the wall when he watched it. I bet he has. I can't see him not watching it.
He's the main villain, after all. Certainly that would pique his interest.
The funny thing is, when it first came out, South Korea wouldn't show it.
The Sunshine Policy was still going strong and they were very afraid to do anything that would piss off the Norks. Now that they realize that the Nork regime are serious jerk***s, they have been showing it a lot, with sub-titles, on the Catch On channel.
That and Napoleon Dynamite. A kicka$$ double feature! |

It does say he received an English education in the '70s. Although his fluency is anyone's guess. But if he's anything like South Koreans who learn English in university, well, I'd bet he'd probably need Hollywood movies translated. |

They still have censorship in this country? Like, the government banned the movie from theatres?
I knew it didn't come out here (I have it here on DVD and showed it to a Korean ex-girlfriend, who loved it), but I had no idea it was official government policy. |

I have a copy with Korean subtitles...I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard for him to get a hold of one.
If he saw it, I would bet $100 that he'd laugh his ass off. |

Uh, yes!
There's a long history of them keeping certain films out of the theaters.
One of the more well known stories was that you couldn't see the Michael Douglas film "Falling Down" here for a good ten years after it was made. They were pissed because Douglas' character berates a Korean shop owner and they took offense to it. |

I'm sure there is a history of the K-gov't keeping some films out of theatres: I already knew Korea used to have censorship (it was, after all, a dictatorship not long ago), but I didn't know free speech and freedom of expression was still being suppressed. |

I just read in the paper that the government is trying to ban a series of web sites that mock the government and various government departments. |

You just piqued my interest: does this mean they won't scramble the images of women's muffs in the Korean nudie magazines anymore? 'Cause I really hate that.
What's your source on this, by the way? I believe you, but I want to read it for myself. |
