A principal from one of the local schools in my area (Seattle, WA) asked if I knew how to make a connection with a middle school in Korea. Not sure of all the specifics, but I think she is trying to establish a relationship with an entire school in Korea vs. a class. This would be great practice in communicating in English and getting to know about different cultures.
Since I will be working at a private language institute that won't work. Does anyone work for a public school or have a connection with one that you think would be willing to look into this further. I told her I would do what I could. It doesn't matter where the school is located she is simply looking for an interested party.
Any suggestions? |

I'm at a small foreign school, but most of our kids are Korean. I've thought about trying to set up a "sister school" thing with a school back home, so if they're interested, let me know. |

Alternatively he can contact the Gyeonggi Provincial Education office. They are working to establish a program as well.

Hello. I have already established several penpal exchanges for individual students at my school "Jeongja Middle School" in Seongnam City, South Korea. Some of my students are really interested in exchanging letters and others are not. We are currently communicating with schools in Turkey, Slovenia, Sweden, Czech Republic, Poland and the US. I think it would be cool to set up a school penpal thing where we could exchange school stuff, instead of individual stuff. (videos, newletters, video conferencing, etc). Send me a PM and let me know what the next step might be. |

Jinju, please tell us why you are against the whole idea. I am curious. What could possibly be wrong with teaching children about other children around the world? Or teaching them patience? (waiting for letters to come in the mail) Or giving them a contact so that if they ever go to a Western country to study English they could possibly have a new friend? Making new friends can never be a bad thing. I know that my students have enjoyed getting the photos, music, drawings and handwritten letters from their penpals. They can't wait for the next ones to arrive. I don't see what is so wrong with that. |
