What are these called?

There were many lining the street at the lantern festival. I love them, they make me smile. My friends mom asked if they were korean totem poles. She woul like to know the history and significance of certain carvings. Can you help? I'd love to have a link to info to send her. |

| I don't know the significance of the funny-face poles, though I agree they are amusing. Does anyone know the significance of the giant hampster sculpture at a rest stop outside of Seoul? I think that is equally amusing. It made me smile for a day. |
