Last night I was sitting at a red light. The intersection was for a main thoroughfare having three lanes each way. And the sidestreets cutting into this four way intersection.
Well a twenty-something Korean guy wearing a red, adidas training jacket walked diagonally across the intersection. It was night and eight pm. He walked tall like Billy Jack, straight spine, liesurely, a swagger, and in a straight line across the four way. It was the usual Korean four-way mayhem.
He walked and there was the usual pushy shovey left hand turns being made and impatient drivers behind them trying to sail on straight and touch the brake as little as possible, all for the thrill of driving.
While this pedestrian was playing Russian roulette. It was like watching a war movie where a soldier is tearing across a hail of fire, except a soldier would be zigzagging. There were many times in his thirty second stroll I thought he was going to experience Sudden Impact (and be injured for life, or killed).
When he got to the other side he had a girlfriend waiting. He put his arm around her shoulder and they walked, she tossing her hair back.
Some kind of thrill! |
