it seems that English fans are putting a lot of blame on their new coach. now i certainly didn't like Sven, but how could England lose so badly in their recent games? McClaren: moron?

Perhaps its because their team and players are vastly overrated. I dont think England is in the top 10 in the world (and barely top 10 in Europe) talentwise but for some reason they seem to think thay should be wining World Cups which is laughable. They have a decent, though technically challenged team that really cant match up position for position with the better teams. I think Sven got them to overachieve, and now it seems McClaren just has them playing at the level they are truly at.

hes made some strange decisions but its still early doors lets give him a chance...

I have never had quite the same confidence in the national team that others have had and for me the problem is when all the players are on the pitch at the same time they rarely bring their international game up to the same level as their domestic game. there is so much under sven's reign that needs to be corrected for us to genuinely move forward.

A lot of the discussions that I have read (in the press) seem to be very much Sven vs McClaren. I guess thats always going to happen in a transitional period, but one has to note their relative pedigrees. Prior to the England job, Eriksson managed some quality teams in a quality league (Serie A at its peak). McClaren managed 'Boro. Apologies to football fans from the NE but they don't compare. True, McClaren was at Utd, but excellence as a No. 2 does not ensure excellence when in charge of a team that has high expectations (ie Queiroz (sp.) at Real Madrid).

McClaren has also raised eyebrows with his squad changes, notably by axing Beckham. Apparently Beckham was dropped because they want to build for the future, yet there was word that McClaren or Tel Vel were trying to get Scholes out of requirement (not 100% sure about this mind you). Fair enough Lennon et al need a chance, but if they don't perform they too should be dropped. (Interestingly there was an article quoting Mark Bosnich as saying back in their Utd days McClaren and Beckham didn't get along)

In all, my verdict is that it is early days, but with the next game, albeit a friendly, against Holland, it is only going to get tougher for England and McClaren.

Harsh. For arguments sake, who would you place above them??? (and not just based on the last round of fixtures Razz )
