I am looking at a job as a conversational English instructor at Chinju University in Jinju. The job itself looks all right- low pay for a uni job maybe (2.3 mil) but I'm not too fussed about that. Does this university have a good reputation as a fair and decent place to work?
Also, is Jinju a good place for a foreigner to live? Are there interesting things to do? I have heard that it is a smaller city, which is fine with me because I tend to get very overwhelmed in big big cities. But I'd like to know if there is enough of a Western community for me to make friends there. Any knowledge would be appreciated!

Are you talking about the Chinju National University of Education? If so, my friend worked there for the last couple years. Chinju is a fun town. Check out Ruby's bar. Namsun, the owner, speaks English and she's wonderful.

The job is good, from what my friend told me. The students were fun and she liked her coworkers. Although the overtime pay sucked, it's standard for that kind of uni.

If you take the job, make sure you don't live in the dorms and that you get your own place off campus or else you'll have a curfew, no privacy, no male friends allowed in, and students coming down for homework checks all the time.

If I remember right, you'll be teaching classes in a pass/fail system and you don't have testing, so the workload outside of class is greatly reduced.
With that in mind, the pay isn't too bad. I've seen a lot worse advertised recently.

My friend really liked it there.
