I'd like to download some of that adjosshi music that you hear in taxi cabs. Sometimes that stuff is real catchy. I think the proper term is 트로트 or 가요 or something. I'm wondering, what is the good stuff? Who is the Frank Sinatra of chintzy adjosshi music? Whose voice soars above the 80s synthesizer drums and the horn section to hit that sweet spot right before the flute solo?

The answer is Song Dae-Kwan [송대관].

Ne Bakja is the best norae-bang tune bar none.

Edit: and here's some bangin' alternative/experimental bongjjak by Wee Seung-Hee: 사랑학 '개'론

There's also 나훈아 (Na Hoon A), but he's more like the king of ajumma music.
He's a snappy dresser too.

Ask your favourite ajumma. She'll tell you all about him.

설운도,태진아, 송대관

these are your kings of trot!

나훈아 is legendary he owned the airwaves in the 60/s n70's n early 80's

이미자 is a female trot singer who is at legendary status too..

남진 used to be as famous as 나훈아 and he use to imitate Elvis's style of dress all shinny etc.. this was when he was young.. again this is the other top singer back in the days! now legendary status!

but 나훈아 n 남진 are legendary. they don't make new albums any more. 설운도, 태진아, 송대관 are still releasing new albums and become hits now

설운도,태진아, 송대관 took over in the 80's and have been leading the way since then! as the other two got older. so now these three are the big dogs!

but!! 남진and 나훈아 are considered the greatest! and legends of TROT!
call it nostaglia if you will maybe..

although the big 3 are popular now and keeping trot alive. 나훈아 is considered the best and has so many unforgettable songs compared to the big 3..

IN history of all trot past and present
the best male - 나훈아 , best female - 이미자

설운도,태진아, 송대관 are the current leaders of trot and keeping it alive as the greats now..

but if the question is who is the best? it's definitely 나훈아.

he performs only on special days. and his shows are HUGE.
you can say he is to trot what 조용필 is to pop..
KINGS!!

hope this helps you..

Trot is great music.. catchy tunes.. there are some great tunes out there
the lyrics are childish at times, but innocent I guess..

Taejinah is the undisputed king of TROT,,hes like Cliff Richard meets Frank Sinatra and the Lone Ranger
but these days most of his releases are disco medleys made for the rural norae buses
in my mind the female trotters are the best but i dont know their names only the way the songs go

so far 태진아 is my favorite. i think i saw him live about a year ago, but at the time i didn't know it. but it was a big concert (i think BoA was there or was it 이효리? somebody real famous) and the dude belted out 사랑은 장난이 아니야 and I was like, yeah, adjosshi music is great. I also like 태진아s 아줌마 song. I'm gonna learn that one for the noraebang (50% of the lyrics are 아줌마 and the other 50% are 좋아) and people aren't gonna be able to stop me

Look at this man. Look at that hat. And it's not just one hat, he's got many more where that came from. His pimp hand is strong!

Aren't they their own kings? A lot of the time in cabs, they play their OWN singing that they recorded at the Norabang on tape.

Cool thread.

I like the throat music too. Any songs to recommend for download or learning to sing in the norae-bang?
