Can anyone tell me how cold it is in S. Korea right now? Should I bring a big jacket with me?
Thanks! |

Currently it's 36degF/2degC in Seoul. Today's high should be 45/7 with a mix of clouds and sunshine through morning, with more sunshine this afternoon. Humidity is 64%, barameter 29.29in/1019mb and rising. Winds out of the northwest at 8mph/13kph.

You decide if you need a jacket.
Have fun,

| You'll definitely need one in winter, but ski jackets and such are fairly cheap here. |

| It was +2 today? I wore a short-sleeved shirt, and although I was a bit cold, it was still pretty good. |

| I'm moving to the Chinju area in the far southern region of SK. I'm having trouble finding information on what winter is like there. The teacher whose number I have hasn't been there through a winter. I welcome your input. Thanks. |

winter in JinJu.....
for about 4 or 5 weeks it was in the 20's and 30's. the wind was the most uncomfortable part of winter for me. it blew every day. i'm from west texas, where the wind really blows. it was just like at home, if not worse.
be aware that the late morning and early afternoon will be beautiful in late fall. but when night falls, it gets significantly colder. and the wind picks up. a few times i didn't bring a jacket because it was hot walking to class. and seriously regretted it when i walked out into the night.
i had a long down coat, scarf, gloves and a cap and was miserable waiting for the bus. be sure to send over winter clothes. my classrooms were freezing so i wore my coat or a heavy sweater for the first few classes. after the heater and the kids had some time to warm things up it was ok.
hope that helps. you'll love jinJu. it's a beautiful place. |

| Gosh, I thought it was warmer there. Does it snow? I get cold easily, so I'm so glad for your suggestions. What months were the cold ones? I'll be arriving end of October or early November. It's difficult knowing how to pack. But that's a great idea shipping my winter clothes there. |

| From the US bring your valuable clothes with you, and send the rest in a package. USPS has a problem with losing things. I lost a formal wool jacket, two pairs of shoes, and like 8 other garments. Half of the box was missing, and I only received the other half. Sucks |

'Warmer' is a relative term. Not knowing where you are makes it impossible to say whether here is warmer or colder.
Korea does get some snow. Most of Korea doesn't get all that much, some of it get almost none at all. But it does get cold here. There are usually short warm spells, so most of the snow doesn't stay on the ground too long.
It starts getting cold, rainy and raw in late October. By November it is cold and stays cold until mid-March. It is noticably warmer on the south coast than elsewhere.
If you get cold easily, you are going to have some uncomfortable times ahead. Most classrooms are not well heated. Bars are not either. Restaurants are usually warm enough--we cook a lot of Korean food at the table and that helps.
What you are NOT going to like are the bathrooms. I don't recall ever finding a bathroom that is heated. They can be nippy. You may be tempted to put your mittens on before you take a whizz. |
