Hi,
Would Seocheon and Gunsan City area be a good place for a newbie?
and is 2.1M fair for 30hrs in this area? They say the cost of living is very low compared to the rest of Korea.
Any one live in this area? what do you do? is there places to hang? whats it like etc.
Any info would be more than helpful! |

I'm in Gunsan. The cost of living is pretty low unless you're like many of the teachers here and head to Seoul every second weekend because there's not a lot to do here. Like any place in Korea, it really depends on your food and leisure preferences because these are likely to be your highest expenses.
I'm not really sure about places to hang...Wa-Bar downtown seems to be the one frequented most by foreigners. I go to a martial arts class 5 days a week so that keeps me relatively busy and allows me to meet Koreans to hang out with.
Gunsan seems a lot smaller than its size as there's not a lot to do and not a lot of variety in terms of products. The happiest teachers I've found here either go travelling every weekend or are homebodies who like to just stay at home anyway. If you need to get out and meet people and socialize, it takes a bit of work, especially if you are the lone foreigner at your school.
The pay you're being offered sounds about right. |

To Whom It May Concern-
We made a mistake by placing a teacher with a school in Gunsan called Top English Academy, or World Prep School - so if you are still heading to Gunsan I would definitely avoid this school

The teacher we placed there has decided to stay for the length of her contract, but the owner, Paul Go - "Ko Dong Ha" in Korean is a liar and a dishonest individual. He is incredibly cheap and tries to take advantage of his teachers in any way possible. If socializing to you means drinking, then Gunsan is okay. A few good places across from the Baskin Robbins downtown to go to, a couple places to go dancing in that area. As long as you ignore the hookers, A-Town is okay. And there are some good, cheap places around the university.
If you're not a drinker, then there's not much opportunity to socialize. Travelling back to Seoul/Busan or staying at home with a DVD player are about your only options. |

When I lived in Gunsan (back when it was Kunsan!) I did an activity with my students which asked "What's the most fun or interesting thing to do in your city?". The overwhelming answer was "Go to E-mart".  |

Great, shopping my favorite past time, I cant wait to go do americanized things in another country, lol.
Malls and TV suck......I'm hoping I can stop getting bombarded with ad's of people trying to sell me shit I dont need!! |
