Check out this Vancouver forum guy talk about how he can't
get a job with a B.Sc. in math. I have a B.Sc. in economics
and new lots of other science people. A B.Sc. in math would
be REALLY difficult. I studied lots of math but math majors
study some pretty hair raising stuff. Almost all of those I knew
were really bright. What is the story with the Canadian job
market? "Bright people need not apply"?

On another topic this Korea commercial is also funny:

This Vancouver forum is also moderated but not to the extent
of Dave's ESL. Daves must subscribe to the DPRK school of
extreme censorship.

BSc Math might be hard, but so what? What can the guy do to make profit for someone else? That's the question. BSc CompSci wouldn't be having the same kinds of problems.

And even though it's off-topic, I wouldn't say that eslcafe is overmoderated as such (especially given the lack of maturity of a large proportion of its demographic), just that the moderation decisions often seem to arbitrary and inconsistently applied.

Having a BS in math doesn't necessarily mean you are employable. I have a BS in Engineering and Physics and a minor in Math. Its not that the math at that level is all that difficult (for certain people). But being smart in math doesn't mean you are worth even $10/hr.

Case in point: I knew a kid back in my physics undergrad days who could do partial differential equations and quantum physics behind his back with his eyes closed. Of course, he did them in huge handwriting easily bested by my worst 6 year olds here in Korea. In addition he was one of the most socially awkward people I've ever met. I have no idea what he ended up doing but I'm sure he's crunching numbers in a dark corner somewhere.

My best friend in the UK got a joint degree in Maths and Music.

She is now a rich accountant.

Moral of the story - be an accountant after a semi-useless degree.
