No foolin'!
Kim Jong Il is alive and well, but he's not the President of the DPRK. His title is technically Chairman of the National Defense Commission of North Korea, Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army, and General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (the ruling party since 1948). However, his father, Kim Il Sung, retains the title of President, despite the fact that he's dead.

Not being president has its advantages though-- only the President is constitutionally required to hold elections.

One more weird fact-- since Kim Jong "Licence to" Il was born in Siberia, he was known as Yuri Irsenovich Kim. Cute.

This is one of my favourite "North Korean Facts". Kim Il Sung is the "Eternal President of the Republic" according to the constitution. It's so funny, apparently when you go to his mausoleum, which is in fact a palace, it's considered a visit, in the sense you are going to meet him.
