Though, I consider myself, to the left of most Republicans, I don't see this as a Republican police officer simply giving a ticket to a Democrat expressing her opposition to George Bush. There was profanity on the bumper sticker. I am not sure if sh*t was written with the star or not, and that state had a law against that, which the Supreme Court declared unconstitutional. So, she has a right to sue against this. Would the police officer have done this if the expletive referred to a Democrat? I don't know. I think it occurred in a conservative state and many states have laws regarding profanity.

I wonder if, at some point, an American has sued over the drop of a hat...

The fact the law has been unenforceable for SIX years already, how does on interpret it as anything other than harrassment? It's either that or incompetence.

Some cops are more zealous than others. We don't have enough facts to know if it was political or not. In Texas, one girl who was drunk and on roller blades was asked for her I.D. because she was drunk i.e. guilty of public intoxication. Now, it is dumb to bother someone who is not driving and bothering anyone for public intoxication. But the cop believed in going by the letter, and she got upset that he asked for her I.D. and got very vocal and vulgar. He then subdued the tiny girl, and she got all bloody and people in the state were outraged. So we can't be sure it was simply political. We don't know what this officer thinks of George Bush. We don't know if he is simply a conservative fellow who doesn't like to see profanity.
