Since my Toshiba has apparently shuffled off this mortal coil, I have decided to invest in Samsung Q1 for all of my ultraportable geeky digital audio needs.
I am concerned about how to get an English OS, the longer lived battery...
Thoughts? Advice? |

Here's a link to one with a better CPU and RAM upgrade.

I still haven't found out anymore about the larger battery though. They do have a "Power Bank" but something tells me it's external and not just a larger capacity modular battery. |

Hi Chaz. I read a review for this on Cnet.com a while ago, and it didn't do to well. They gave it 5 out of 10, or something. While i don't give much credence to their scoring abilities, they do have some useful information on there. But don't just take their word for it. Try it before you buy it.
Also, have you been quoted any prices yet? The price on the link you posted seems rather expensive to me.

Recently I started lookind at the Samsung Q1-SSD. It has a 32 GB solid state hard drive, pretty snazzy, I've been waiting for these drives to hit the market for some time now.
I wanted to put one in my Toshiba but the thing is probably a brick now.
Anyway, the Q1-SSD is even more expensive... but I will/would buy one based upon one condition:
------> The four assignable buttons on the right side of the console, can they be assigned simple mouse button functions? I think the right-click is very useful. How the heck does a tablet interface do a right click... I would think that those buttons must be assignable to a mouse click function as well as application launching. This is my prime concern and I am counting the days until next payday. |

The Q1 looks like a netherworld between a laptop and a PMP. I'm not sure what it would be good at without attaching stuff like a keyboard to it. Then you lose the portability advantage. Also, it seems to have short battery life and a very big price.
If you just need movies and music (and GPS) on the go.....use a PMP.
If you want games on the go.........try a PSP.
If you want to use Windows and do full scale computing....get a laptop...or palmtop. You will need something with a keyboard.
I don't see where this Q1 thing fits in.
Before buying a gadget like this I would make sure I knew what I was going to use if for and if other, cheaper products don't do the same or more. |
