I just wondered today if a standard contract has always been 1 year in duration since the beginning. I assume it either has to do with it being the duration of an E-2 VISA, or with Korean labour laws relating to severance pay. In retrospect I would have loved to have arranged for a briefer stay in Korea this time around. |

Initial contracts are one year because of immigration.
If you extend your contract with the SAME employer at the SAME location, then the extension can be whatever you negotiate it to be. Extensions can be from a few days up to another full year. |
