Probably. Why Not? Another test is not that likely to escalate the situation much, considering that have done one test, more are almost to be expected.

I doubt the US will do much more than it is doing now, unless NK starts developing quality delivery systems, smaller warheads and megaton thermonuclear weaponry. The NK nuclear program is not advanced enough yet to form a significant threat.

When the naval inspections kick in is when things will move fast. I'd bet dollars to donuts that North Korea will have decoy ships full of Nork marines out there, hoping to be boarded, so they can counter attack and try to win another USS Pueblo for Dear Leader.

Not purposefully leaping into flights of fancy here, but I've been searching for the Pueblo on Google Earth. Supposedly it was moved to Pyongyang in 1999. Anybody have a good sense of where it's being kept? Would be neat to see from the satellite pics.

This is true. I was only thinking of more testing. Of course, other factors (like what you mentioned) will come in to play to bring about greater escalation. The scenario you suggested is worrying.

They will test again.

Then...once they have established a credible nuclear test they will test ballistic missiles and try to show they could deliver the nuke over a distance.

It all works towards a credible threat.

The current sanctions will not do much unless China also closes the border it has with NK. If not and if they say one thing but do another then all the naval blockading in the world won't change NKs posture as they will circumvent the blockade by overland transport through China and then in and out of Chinese ports as they have been doing for decades.

They will, the first one was a bit of a dud, so they need to prove they have a credible weapon. Once they do, I'm sure Noh Mu Hyun will kick in another 400 million to fund the program. Smile

Yeah, and after hundreds of hours of meetings and debates and vetoes, the US will tentatively receive the world's support to deprive Our Dear Slavemaster of ivory backscratchers.

They will hold another test.

China will stop food aid.

NK will say that they've stopped their programme.

China will let them off with a warning.

NK will clandestinely continue their program.

The US will ignore them and focus on Iran.

Then I guess they'll have to settle for an unrelenting, and when I say unrelenting I mean UNRELENTING........
