Kim Jong Il says he is sorry for testing his nuke and has dropped the demand of direct talks with the US and will return to talks if the US ends the sanctions.
Who gives a rats butt how long it is??

Wow.. I bet the hardliners in Pyongyang are pissed. So basicly Kim has bowed, and given in to the demands of the international community.

Say NAVFC, how about bowing to the demands of the Dave's community and eliminating the extra-long URL in that post of yours? No apologies neccessary. Wink

He's not saying anything new. He's been saying for months NK's return to the six-party talks is conditional upon the US dropping sanctions over its money laundering and other illegal activities...but there may be an opening here.

The Us should make a step and relax the sanctions on Banco Delta at the very least and see if Kim is telling the truth. Sure does sound like an opening to me, Bush has to test it. If nothing comes of it he can slap sanctions on again.

No, but you could try to learn something new. Like how to do it.
Here, I will help.

Well it is new. Hes not referring to the laundering sanctions. Hes referring to the latest ones. What is new is:
1. KJI actually APOLOGIZED for something he did.
2. He then humbled himself by dropping the demand for direct talks, saying any format is ok.

Dude, I was trying to use a bit of humour, parodying the language of the article to make a friendly request. That's what the winking smiley was supposed to convey. Sorry if you took it as a literal demand, that's certainly not how it was meant.

As Lao points out, there are ways to shorten the URL. You can also click on tinyurl, and the procedure should be self-explanatory. It's your choice obviously, but doing so will make it easier for the rest of us to read your thread.

Sorry again for the misunderstanding.

I always wondered how to do that. I'll give it a try. Thanks.

Maybe it's just me, but sidescroll makes it somewhat difficult to read the thread and process the information in an efficient manner.

Oh, and thanks Lao. I didn't know how to do that either.

An apology?

That's just peachy. It makes me feel a whole lot better that KJI destablilized the whole world but now he's sorry. That makes everything OK.

I won't pretend to know his mind. Maybe the Chinese did slap him down. But there is also the possibility that this was the plan all along. Test a nuke and threaten to test some more, then say, "Gee whiz, guys. I'm sorry."

It sounds to me like he has just claimed 'King's X' and no one can touch him. Because he's 'sorry'.

I say: Words are cheap. Let's see some genuine action indicating you are sorry. I mean real action, not just agreeing to come back to the talks if the US does something for you.

The sanctions against the North aren't to stop him from more tests. They're to discourage other countries from going nuclear. And for many in the US, there's the hope that they'll cut off the blood supply to the regime.

He says he's sorry? The danger is that the Chinese, the South Koreans and the Russians might be moved by this one-sentence tactic.
