My director told me today immigration holds on to my degree for the duration of my visa here in Korea. I told him I didn't think thats how it works. I didn't get to far. Am I right or have a misunderstood the whole visa process here. I did my run to Japan over chesok and we went to get my ARC last friday. So, do they hold on to my degree, and if not, anyone got a link to a relevant site that might convince him otherwise? Thanks in advance.

If you used a copy of your degree, then immigration holds it.

If you used the original then your boss is a liar or a thief or both AND he has it. Immigration does NOT take or keep an original. They simply make a copy and return it to him when he applies for your visa number

Make a simple statement. No degree = no work OR be prepared to lose it.
Just hope that he is not a fool as well and that he didn't leave it at immigration or it will be gone forever.

probably your boss is lying to you.
However, my husband's school said that immi kept his degree. He was working really hard to explain to htem that thats not true. Finally called the recruiter (who we really trust) to translate and help him. Turned out the school had typed "degree" into one of those online dictionaries which spit out the Korean word for transcript. Immi does permanently keep your transcripts.
I hope that your problem is nothing more than a translation problem as well.

I just got my degree back today! I took the advice of just nagging the living bejesus out of them till they gave it back. Boss just walked in and put in on my desk. I just kept asking, are you SURE thats right, I looked up korean immigration law and it saw its supposed to be a copy. Can you double check? I really need that.... Now I just need to get paid back for my visa run over Chesok where the ferrys from Busan got all cancelled for the weekend. Ended up flying back to the tune of around 600 bones. If its not one thing, its another. Thanks for the help guys.

What a crock of lying *beep* your boss is. If I were you, I would watch my back at all time. Those are the kinda people who think they own you and screw you up the ass when you bend over to pick up your soap.

Yes. If he'll lie about this, he'll lie about many other things, too.
