| Look, I can't fight everyone down in buy/sell/trade who gets an animal and dumps it when they leave because they are too cheap to bring it home, or just don't really care. But please, before you think of buying a pet (especially those who think it's cute, or feel they need a friend), atleast try to think about the future and what will happen. I would love to get a kitten, but I know I am not going to be a lifer (or even a 5 year guy), so I decided not too, as much as I would love to. |

Justified.
It's not so important with cats. They can adapt to a new owner more easily than dogs. Dogs do not take well to a change of owner. Either way, the general rule must apply.....don't take a temporary pet when in Korea. |

Yea, so much better to let those little pups and kittens fend for themselves in my local apartment complex. Feeding off trash while dodging traffic builds character, don't you think. |

Cats don't have an owner. They own you. Or at least the co-reside with you. Otherwise, accurate. A cat can change hands many times without much stress. |

i think that anyone who gets a pet in this country had better have a ridiculous failsafe exit strategy for both pet and human...
otherwise, don't get the pet.
as well, if you're going to be living in an apartment that's the size of 4 bathrooms and leaving your dog there for extended periods of time while you work/get soused with nibnobs in itaewon... don't get a dog.
seriously. dogs and cats can't tell you how bad you deserve to get pounded silly for being a bad pet owner, but i can. |

I dispute that. They become just as attached as any dog. They just don't display the same behaviours. |

I've seen the same attitude among college students back home. They move away from home and immediately get a dog or cat. Then when they leave, they abandon the poor animal.
I haven't gotten a cat because of space for the animal and questions on how to bring them back with me. Now that I'm married, I have a bigger home, but the wife hates cats. If she ever agreed, then I'd look into how hard it would be to bring an animal back. Until then, I won't get one. |

Here here!!
It breaks my heart to see all the "Give our cat, kitten, dog, iguana etc a new home" ads on that forum. I have 2 cats at home in the UK who I miss dearly, but like laogaiguk I am not a lifer either.

| Why not just bring the pet with you? It's really easier to bring a cat on an international flight than to find a new owner. |

| As far as I know it's very difficult and expensive to bring any animals or other active biological agents into New Zealand. |

| We bought a dog here and before we did we looked into all of the airlines and customs regulations. She's been back to the States with us and since we have moved back here with her. If you are going to get a dog here, its fine. You just hve to be willing to pay for whatever it takes to keep her with you. We've forked over a ridiculous amount of money hauling her around the world, but its completely worth it everytime she greets me at the door. |
