To all potential enlgish teachers,
I am writing on behalf of my friend who has been unfairly discriminated against because of his ethnic background. He was discriminated because he is of "mixed blood." The recruiter told him that his mom would be shamed in Korea and it would be unlikely that they could find him any positions. Hence, the recruiter said that there are no more positions for him when, in fact, ATC has publicly advertised that they have more than nine open positions available for the next three months. If you plan on teaching in Korea then I suggest that you look into other agencies. Simply, boycott ATC and find a morally upright agency. ATC is not the only Korean teaching agency in Korea. |

if you really think potential candidates are going to boycott ATC in favor of getting a job from them, you're wrong.
people couldnt give a flying *beep* about that. as a korean myself, i am ashamed to say that koreans are a very narrow-minded peoples. it's a closed society that is extremely prejudiced and arrogant in some ways.
however, if u think people are gonna boycott, as the italians say, "fuh-gedda-bout-it"!! the people on this forum just want a damn job.
the situation your friend went through...it's called life, and life is unfair, but we all deal with it. so deal with it.
--EDIT-- and if you're friend was really upset about the situation, he should be the one talking, not you.
and if he IS pissed off about what happened to him, tell him dont bother coming to korea cuz hes gonna get that type of treatment everywhere. thats just how koreans are. |

I'm just wondering if the OP is an opportunistic recruiter (perhaps a Kyopo since the English is near flawless) who sees a chance to get ahead by damaging ATC's reputation. However, just for you, as someone who has vowed never to use a recruiter again since the majority of them are lying scumbags, I will not use ATC's services. Happy? |

ATC were the most professional people I dealt with. Anyways, it's not the recruiters fault, it's the schools. There is very little they can do about it, actually, almost nothing. They can't boycott those schools, there are too many of them. Then we would have no recruiters due to going out of business. The fact that they were honest about it is actually nice in my opinion. Please, for the severly stupid people on this board, I am in NO WAY condoning it and I think it is horrid. I am just stating facts, not opinions outside of thinking it is disgusting.
And from there, you should actually look at the parents who would complain more than the hagwons, as most wangjangnims couldn't care less who is teaching as long as they are making money. Still, a good hagwon is one that won't care and still go and hire a non-white, non-blond, non-good looking girl (well, they do that often enough just kidding). |

I agree with the person that states it's the school's fault and not the recruiter's. You will never stop discrimination in Korea by boycotting one agency. I myself used ATC and found them outstanding. I was previously discriminated against by another recruiter due to my age (which shall remain nameless, hence the boycotts start on them as well). But ATC was very good with me - I told them I was having difficulty (I'm 51). Although I look very young for my age - (the first recruiter thought I was 35 by the photo and tried to help me find a job, but when they asked my age they never talked with me again saying I was too old). So, the point is, it is not the recruiter's fault. I've had nothing but excellent help from ATC. They've translated letters to my school for me and helped out when I was having trouble with my co-teacher. Yes, they found me a job with an elementary school. Most times the recruiter ends up in the middle. They make money from the employers but in most cases, they care about the employees - at least I can state from personal experience that ATC does. |
