I've advised my Director that I'm not re-signing for another year (wages too low).
My contract expires in December 2006. My ARC card states 'Period of Stay' as 06.12.28.

I want to take 5 days unaid annual leave immediately before my contract ends, e.g., 21.12.06 to 28.12.06 (5 days paid annual leave and 1 paid national hol/xmas).

I will be handing in formal written notice this week (EFL Law Forms).
I would like to stipulate the PAYMENT DATE FOR MY FINAL pay/severance/airfare on my resignation form. What payment day do I put down, my last WORKING day (20.12.06), or do I have to wait until my contract expires on 28.12.06 to get paid.

I'm concerned about possible payment problems. I don't want to buy a flight out of Korea until I actuall receive my final pay. Do I have to leave Korea by 12 midnight on 28.12.06 or do I get an extra 10 days (until 09.01.07) to get packed/flight etc.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

You do NOT automatically get an extra 10 days.

Legally you MUST either:
a) LEAVE the country by midnight of the last date indicated on your ARC or
b) Apply for an extension to your stay.

To apply for the extension to your stay you need your ARC, passport, ticket out of Korea and visit to the immigration office. Your stay will be extended until the time of your ticket. This extension can be for up to 10 days after your ARC expires. There is NO COST for this extension.

notes here:
NO TICKET = no extension.
No extension means you will be illegal if you overstay and subject to at a minimum a delay in departure. You may also face fines or in a worst case detention.

Salary is the only reason that you're leaving? Did you try some hard-nosed negotiations?

I didn't bother negotiating. With my Director it's all about money. He sais he can get a teacher for 1.9 million, so good luck to him. He doesn't consider Western teachers are teachers. He just wants an English voice, the cheaper the better.
I've stayed here for 2 years for personal reasons (getting over a family tragedy). It's time to move on to another job/country where I can earn a little more money and learn some new stuff.
Frankly, the kids at this small school are just lovely. I'll miss them. But I won't miss the hateful stares I get EVERY DAY when I walk to work. And I won't miss the apartment I was forced to move into this year (to save the school money). Again money, despite my asking for a quiet apartment so I could sleep, they moved me into an apartment that is over 2 recycling/garbage dumps (woken every day at 6am) and a kids playground (noisy all weekend afternoons).

I calculate I've saved this school nearly 10 mil won in 2 years in wages/benefits/business costs etc. And they remembered to deduct 3,000 won from my wages for a telephone account I owed them. That just about sums it up.
