Snake 'befriends' snack hamster

A rodent-eating snake and a hamster have developed an unusual bond at a zoo in the Japanese capital, Tokyo.

Their relationship began in October last year, when zookeepers presented the hamster to the snake as a meal.

The rat snake, however, refused to eat the rodent. The two now share a cage, and the hamster sometimes falls asleep sitting on top of his natural foe.

Thanks Kermo, that's a cute story ... but I posted a link to it a while back and no one seemed interested then! I remember the hamster was named "Gohan," and the last paragraph was the same too. Did the BBC recently pick it up?

= rice/meal. Heh.

Red dog, I'm wondering what you think should be done about the serious issue of animal-on-animal violence in the wild. Should humans intervene?

That hamster looks too fat for the snake to eat, so the snake probably just said, "Aw, f`ck it."

OMG- that is so cute. I wonder what's up with the snake- he won't eat baby mice, either... I wonder if he has some kind of eating disorder^^
