| i recently lost my wallet in a night of debauchery in itaewon and my alien card was in there. im debating whether or not to go through the rigmarole of getting another one since im leaving in four months. does anyone know the story with what happens if you dont have one (i heard you can be stopped by the police and asked to show it ....but what if you say you're just a tourist?) |

| You will also need to have it to turn in at the airport before your flight out. I'm not 100% sure it would happen, but you could have a big hassle at the last minute when you're ready to leave. |

| you need to report it being lost or you will face a big fine at the airport (at least 100k). You need to report it's loss to the local police station and then take it from there. |

Report it! And get a new one. It will be a bit of hassle, but only costs 10000 won to replace (I know, I had to). Don't even pretend you shouldn't, any reason you have in your mind is wrong |

My advice on that is, it's best not to.

You say rigmarole like it's a bad thing. Maybe I've just been in Korea too long. If your game is to avoid the replacement rigmarole, how about going through the locating your lost wallet rigmarole? I say that because I've done pretty much what you did, and I managed to get it back. Only took me an afternoon, and I treated myself to a pile of drinks with the money I'd "saved". |

If you are stopped you need to show it OR your passport. It's easier and safer to carry your ARC than your passport.
You need to return it when you leave. If you do NOT return it you will be fined 100k won at the airport. Failure to pay the fine will result in detention until you do.
Replacing an ARC takes only 1 morning. Make a report to the police that you lost it. Go to immigration and get a new one. It's not that hard. Cost is 10k won. |

What if they ask to see your passport and your tourist visa? Knucklehead. Get down to immigration. If you are smart you can con a day off out of your boss because of it. Oh, but that's right... you're a knucklehead.
Just hackin' on ya, Billy. |

Yeah, get a replacement. It's not that big a deal. I lost mine a couple of years ago. Didn't even have to fill out a police report as I was pretty sure that it fell in my trash can.
My husband's was lost by one of our office staff (this just a couple of weeks ago while applying for medical insurance). We went to immigration, filled out a form, paid W10,000 and were given the replacement card on the spot. No new pic needed (Daejon office). |
