TPR = Totally Pissing 'Round.

I can't believe they actually named an academy after that useless Japanese crap.

What does TPR have to do with Japan?

I thought TPR comes from the USA.

If it wasn't invented there it was certainly perfected by the Japanese when it comes to TEFL, from all I've seen and read.

I worked in a bushie ban for 8 months in Taiwan where TPR was all we were allowed to use. Didn't know a thing about it before I started and we were not given any theory instruction, just very strict instructions on how to use it at that school.

My impression was that it's great for beginners.

If you ask some specific questions, I may be able to help.

It was during my exile from Korea back in '94-'95.

(See 'Note to potential midnight runners' for the details of the cause of exile.)

I lived in Tainan and worked at Sunflower Language School. Steven, the owner, was under indictment for copyright infringement the whole time I was there. He'd worked at a place that used TPR and stole their cirriculum, logo and office layout. After I left I heard he'd been sent to cool his heels in the pokey for a few months. Very Happy (One more example of why I don't think I have a particular talent for picking good jobs.)

Total Physical Response. Yes, I took that class, too, and it's right up there with jazz-chants in the lexicon of useless teaching tools.

mmm, mayhaps i should have put "the princeton review', i forgot that the "total physical response" teaching technique had the same acronym. heheh.

ya-ta boy: specific questions, mmmm. i am going to work in the office (developing teaching material) and then testing/teaching that material so my situation may be different.

1-the classes are 3.5 hours long, is that exhausting?

2-they are not offering me any paid vacation, sick days or overtime pay, but the pay is higher than most teaching jobs and i can take unpaid leave, am i getting screwed?

3-they are asking me to give 3 months notice? is that ridiculous?

4-what are the general working conditions? i read some posts of some people who had miserable experiences there and am nervous about that.
