|
|
So, I'm in Jongro today, near that piano key street North of Chunggyecheon and wanted to buy a coffee and donut since I skipped breakfast.
I asked for an "Americano" as I have in the past, which has mainly been just black coffee from the pot they have poured in a cup. Today, they said that an Americano is an espresso drink and costs 3000 won (regular coffee is 1900).
So I asked for a regular black coffee (Dunkin original without the sugar and cream). They would not sell me a coffee without the cream and sugar! The clerk went over it again and told me if I wanted black coffee I had to buy an Americano espresso drink at 3000 won otherwise the Dunkin Original with cream and sugar, and she wasn't budging.
So, I yelled No, Thankyou, Goodbye and left. I felt like tearing a strip out of her but my Korean is very limited and the only thing that came to mind are some words I've been told I shouldn't use.
I just can't believe they would refuse to sell a coffee without cream and sugar unless it's an expensive espresso drink. Just doesn't make sense, I don't want sugar so they save a couple of won on sugar for me. I don't want cream so they save a couple of won on cream for me. My coffee is a few won cheaper for them to produce, thus they make a better profit than me taking the coffee with cream and sugar.
ARRRRGGGGGG.
Sorry for the rant.
Cheers |

| Sounds like typical Korean racism. You should call the police. |

Doesn`t sound anything at all like typical Korean racism. Rather sounds like typical Korean idiocy. |

| You need to study Jack Nicholson's performance in Five Easy Pieces to know how to deal with this in the future. |

Or Michael Douglass in "Falling Down"
Anyways, nothing racist whatsoever, just pure stupidity. |

I think Racetraitor is kidding. Black coffee? Get it? Racism? Well, that's the joke I was hoping to make when I clicked the thread.
To the OP, I have a brilliant solution.
Ask for the regular Dunkin' Donuts coffee, with cream and sugar on the side. |

This is what Jack did (sort of); but it's the way he did it that gets results. |

Man I was expecting this thread to be another joke complaint thread.
The OP reminds me of when I tried ordering a hamburger without coleslaw and thousand island sauce on it last year. The owner ajumma was in shock at my request. I repeated it to her several times, and she repeated it back to me, but was still baffled. So she summoned her husband, the delivery ajeoshi. I had to explain to him that I didn't want any sauce or coleslaw, and he looked at me like I had a dead fetus attached to my head. But it seemed he understood.
So, finally, they finish preparing the burgers. I get to the PC bang, which is the only place to truly enjoy hamburgers from a pizza store, and guess what! Cole slaw burgers!!
I couldn't do anything but laugh. Special requests just do not go over sometimes around here.
By the way, Satori, Laogaiguk.. uh.. it's really funny that you used the words idiocy and stupidity in your posts, wherein you each brilliantly demonstrated the concepts. |

I was with a group of friends at a sang-kyup-sal restaurant and I wanted a bowl of dwen-jang-gee-gay. Some other people wanted some and I'm not really fond of sharing unless I'm with a group of Koreans but this was all white people. The lady refused to sell me two bowls of the dwen-jang, she kept telling me it was Korean custom, and instead brought me one of the little metal bowls they use for rice. I wanted to kick her in the head. It ruined my night.

I'm just pissed off the DD in Nowon can't be bothered to stock donuts after 9:30 pm on a Friday night. It got to the point where I'd buy my donuts at lunch time and then bring them to DD at night. I can plan ahead, why can't a Korean DD store manager makin' the big bucks. And they bloody have 6 people working at a place no bigger than my bathroom.
I discovered a Krispy Kreme in Nowon and now I go there. Fork 'em. |

They have all those stupid Korean bamboo cigarettes but not Dunnies!!! So I'm not going back to those places. It absolutely ruined my night. |

Not really, I don't get it. What's the joke? "We don't serve black coffee round here?". If so, it's not really working for me cause they do, it's just more expensive... |
