Heya.

I already have a gut-instinct answer to my problem, but I'm curious as to other people's opinions.

Basically, my hagwon director says he is sending me to another hagwon 2 days a week because he cannot afford to pay my full salary (which is only a measly 1.9m anyway).

I said all right, but we'll need to go to immigration to get it sorted out, otherwise it'll be illegal. He said 'I know it's illegal, but we don't need to go to immigration. Let's just keep it secret. I've done this many times with other teachers.'

I was a little taken aback and didnt give a reply, I just nodded, somewhat confusedly (probably the reaction he expected/was hoping for... stupid waegoogin that doesn't stick up for himself..) I'll talk to him about it again today at work. I know I should probably walk away from this one and head home, but I'm reluctant to do so as my girlfriend is also here in Korea and her contract doesnt end until April.

So, I'll insist upon going to immigration. If he doesnt agree then I'll leave. I've also been toying with the idea of demanding more money if he's going to farm me out without any concern for my legal status.

GOign to immi is easy and painless to get this kind of thing done. Tell him you have to go to immi. It would really suck if you got caught and deported and your girlfriend was still working here. I don't know if asking for more money is a good idea since he says he can't pay you anyway, but you could ask for more vacation, better hours, or something else.

choices...either demand 50,000 won an hour working at the other place OR....notify immi and watch the slimeball get fined up the wazoo....of course you could get nailed too!

Kat2: he hasn't told me how much the other hagwon will be paying me. If they're paying a decent sum then I want my proper share. Ie: I don't want my director pocketing any money that I earned. But maybe you're right about not demanding money. Vacation would be nice... I've been working six months and only received 2 days off.

Well, I brought things up with him.

I said we must go to immigration, and that I want to know how much the other hagwon will pay me. I also want to see some sort of contract/employment agreement with the other hagwon.

My director completely blew me off and said "Let's talk later." Now he's ignoring me.

Things grow more interesting by the minute...

And this from the man who said that 'We are family, you are my brother.' when I first arrived here.

My guess is that your director's plan is to pay you nothing extra. You would still work the 30 hours (or whatever) that is in your contract, just at two places. Still making 1.9. I've seen this happen to a lot of people and this is usually the way it goes.

YOu can still ask for transportation pay, extra vacation, meals paid for, or something else though. Does your apartment suck? Ask for an upgrade.

Why don't you just ask your boss to lay you off if he can't afford to pay you measely 1.9 million. Ask for release letter.

Just refuse to work at another school. Get laid off and get a better job paying 2.2 million which is the going rate these days.
