I don't know if anyone else is using the Yahoo Phone Out and Phone In service, but I recommend it. For one cent per minute, you can call any land line telephone in the U.S., and it's free from PC to PC anywhere in the world. All you need is a headset with a microphone (about $25 in Korea), and Yahoo IM with voice (free). It's very inexpensive to Canada too.
I've been in Korea five and a half weeks and hadn't talked to anyone at home for a month before I discovered it. Now I call a couple of times a week.
No, I'm not a shill for Yahoo. I just thought that if you're using phone cards at pay phones or paying exhorbitant long distance rates, you could use this information.

There are so many options these days, it's really cool.
I'm hooked on Vonage now. It's just like a 'real' phone so folks can call me and vice versa without having to worry about if the computers on both sides are on. |

That sounds a bit cheaper than Skype (though PC to PC is the same), but apparently the quality of Yahoo is not comparable. I'd rather spend an extra cent a minute for higher quality. |
