My boyfriend and I have decided to take the risk and just fly ourselves over to Korea and look for a job ourselves. The recruiters we've been dealing with haven't exactly been helpful (been offered jobs at Wonderland, CDI, and all the other sh*itty chains). Does anyone know of any decent hotels/motels to stay in for a week or so? A place close to Seoul or (ideally) right in Seoul, where the operators will accept an unmarried, interracial couple (I'm Korean, my boyfriend is Caucasian), and somewhere where it's not too expensive but not riddled with cockroaches or other bugs.
So far we've found a place called Bee Won Guest House. It's about 37,000W/night for our own room and bathroom and breakfast. If there aren't any suggestions, I'm hoping we'll just be able to work out a great deal with the people at the guest house.
Any help is much appreciated!!

I haven't had to stay in a hotel in Seoul, but I know the travel guides will list good places. You can find cheap hotels almost anywhere for around 30,000 won a night. There is also an international youth hostel near Myeongdong station.[/i] |

Can you read/type a little Korean? If so, you can check out these two sites:
http://www.hotelfind.co.kr/
http://www.hotel365.co.kr/
They're online directories of "love hotels." Yeah, they're set up for adultery, but they're clean, anonymous, and interesting. I haven't searched much in Seoul---when I stayed near Gangnam-gu it was 60,000 or 70,000 per night---but Gangseo, for example, is around 30,000 to 40,000 a night. Also Anyang (in Gyeonggi) has reasonable prices, too. Take a look around (sorry I can't give you any more specific recommendations.)
Also, if you're looking for something more long term, try a goshiwon.

If you're familiar with the Seoul subway---or if you've heard about different places---check out this link: http://www.gosi1.net/subway/subwaysearch.php3 You can click each subway station and find goshiwon listings. It's a different set up from a hotel, but I guess it'd be pretty comparable to a youth hostel. But I think staying in a hotel for longer than a week would really break the bank. |
