|
|
Why does 모르다 conjugate to 몰라요 when according to the rule with (으) as the final vowel we drop the 으 and conjugate according to the previous vowel, which in this case is 오.
So, 모ㄹ + 아요 = 모라요.
Where did this other ㄹ come from and is it dangerous? |

Because it's an irregular verb (yes, Korean has them)
eg. 바르다 = 발라요 |

I think it is standard. All the words I know with 르 in the middle conjugate the same way. But I only know a few.
오르다, 따르다, 부르다, 고르다, 다르다, 찌르다.. all conjugate by adding a ㄹ and changing the 으 according to the preceding vowel. |

It will burst into flames if left unplugged. |

따르다 and 치르다 are the only two verbs that come to mind that don't add the extra ㄹ: 따라 and 치러. It makes it easier, anyway, to distinguish between pairs like 몰다/모르다, 달다/다르다, 길다/기르다, etc. |
