|

Hello. I have been in Korea now for one year and when I first arrived, I purchase an older desktop from someone here on Dave's. Since then, I have used it for basic computer stuff like Office, Website photos, emails, etc. Nothing fancy like graphic games, videos, or music downloads.
As I am not a technical genuis when it comes to computers, I would like to know what a good basic computer should have: RAM, GIGS, and whatever else should be in the computer. And, how do I find out what my computer has? (I know that it was put together by someone, not bought in the store)
Over the past few weeks, it has been running extremely slow. I have done a virus check, emptied the temp folders, and done a defrag, but nothing seems to be helping the speed. What should I do now?
I would appreciate everyone's advice and please try to keep it in EVERYDAY ENGLISH so I can understand what you are saying. |

Hi,
I always recommend a clean-sweep of the system once a year. Back up your files and completely re-install windows. Your PC will be up and running like a monster in no time.
If you want to see what your computer has in it, right-click on my computer and choose "properties". That will tell you the basics (under the general tab).
It will tell you your processor type and speed and how much ram. |

The first place I would start is to reboot your computer, right click on the "taskbar" (bar along the bottom) and select Task Manager.
You'll see basic info on what is start up programs are running in your system, how much resources they are taking and what you have left. Check both the "processes" and "performance" tabs and please post screenshots of both if you can. |
